Take-aways from Mommyfriend Lori

Thanks for Lori coming to our Social Media Marketing class as a speaker! I am surprised that she is a full-time blogger.

First of all, I have changed my mind about interests and careers are incompatible. Lori finds what she is good at and what she likes. That is blogging about parenting. Now, I have confidence to dig a career filed which satisfies my interests.

Moreover, I totally agree with the idea of blogging for community. It is always about a community which can be your friends circle, or your colleagues, or the same position persons on line. No matter what you want to write, there always will be a certain circle of readers. It is important to know who is reading your blog, so you know what is suitable to write.

Finally, I have the similar situation with Lori about twitting. However, the one I mostly used is Chinese Twitter called Weibo, and I checked Weibo almost every hour in the day. I understand it sounds crazy, but it is hard to get rid of. I should try to spend less time on Weibo and Twitter.

Thanks again for sharing your experience, Lori.

Writing practice: The Sunset in Sanya Bay

I took Independent Writing class this quarter, and I love this paragraph I wrote for the homework.

The sunset in Sanya Bay, 2008

Sanya Bay, one of the most beautiful bays in China, is located in Hainan Island which is the southernmost province of China. Although the sea and beach are almost the same in the world, the sunset in Sanya Bay is the most valuable scenery to view. The shining color of the setting sun is reflected on the clouds and the sea. Pieces of clouds which linger around the sun have different yellow colors. Surrounded by bright yellow, the sun is like an egg yolk. Golden yellow frames the clouds, while the clouds are orange because of the sunlight reflection. Shading from orange, pink, purple, blue, to dark blue, the sky is just like a special curtain which is ready for the coming night party. Most people feel cheerful and relaxed when they are watching those amazing colors. At this time of the day, the sea presents dark blue except a saffron sunbeam; the color makes people warm and calm. With feeling the soft wind against face and hearing the gentle growl of the waves, it seems that the sea has stories to tell tonight. The salty but sweet sea smell is a gift to strollers, who like to go walking on the beach after dinner while enjoy the amazing sunset. In addition, the white sands along the beach are enjoyable; even if people walk on it without shoes, they feel great softness. Young couples walk hand in hand. Kids scream and run while their parents shout at them. Elder people seldom walk on the beach at dusk because it is windy when the sun sets. Owing to the weather is a little cold at this time of the day, few people swim or surf. Relatively, Sanya Bay is quieter than other bays in Hainan. Moreover, people will not miss the signature food, seafood barbecue. On the opposite side of the beach, there are many barbecue restaurants which sell and grill fresh seafood. The smell is all along the seaside street, and it is too tantalizing to resist. In conclusion, a feeling of happiness and satisfaction occupy the whole heart when people watch sunset and enjoy seafood barbecue in Sanya Bay.

Do you need tablets?

Last week, the case study of my group talked about the 4th screen and the tablets.
This is a new platform for marketing, because social medias like Facebook and Twitter are connected with the tablets. People can receive advertisements in anywhere at anytime. Moreover, windows, android, and iOS is designed for downloading applications. Marketers can advertise in those apps, too.
For consumers, tablets are thin and easy to carry. You can do almost everything on it since more and more companies are designing a USB hub. However, people who have had enough PCs will resist buying a new technology tables. They do not want to learn a new knowledge of using it, and it is sometimes confusing. Plus, it is expensive. If they have enough resources such as PCs, cellphones, they will not consider buying it.
I appreciate my group members' hardworking, and I am proud that we create the slides in such a short time. The collaboration in our group is perfect!~ Thank you!

Explore MLA style

I am a senior in University, so nowadays I have to begin my final research paper. I heard about MLA writing style one month ago, but only know a little about it. Since it is a homework to do some research, I choose to focus on MLA.
MLA is shor for Modern Language Association which is for scholars of language and literature. MLA writing style is designed for concise work sited in the reference. An alphabetical list of works cited is required according to  the principle. Of course, there are many others complicated rules to follow. If I need more information, I should buy a book called MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers. Fortunately, I found this book in the UCR library. This is an important information for me to start my final research paper.

I used google, wikipedia and yahoo to research "MLA."

experiencing Twitter

Here is my twitter link. Follow me!
http://twitter.com/#!/ZhangNaomi

I'm following
Photography Blogger
UCR_Athletics
Official Adele
CNN breaking news
RiveraPR
MyntPublicRelations

Through following these twits, I know what was happening in UCR sports, like UCR Men's Soccer team will play UC Irvine at 7:00 PM today. In addition, I can catch many breaking news by following CNN.

I tried to follow some Public Relations companies and to learn about it. However, it is less useful than I thought. There are lots of fun twits like A list of 23 Smartphone Apps that #PR Pros Can’t Live Without.

I used Chinese Twitter which is called Weibo to share life experiences with my friends.  As far as I concern, Twitter is useful for sharing between friends and for checking news by following news agency. I cannot explore marketing use so far. Hope I will after taking Social Media Marketing class.

my points toward marketing myself

In general, to market myself is to let people know me better. If people know me better, we can communicate easier. For example, I told my classmates that I'm an English learner, so they speak slowly and clearly for me to understand. If not, the communication between us might be difficult. Hobbies are in the same case. People will know my interest, and we can talk about it in our conference.

Moreover, the most important part of marketing myself is to get what I need from others after they know me better. It is same as selling product. I tell my potential customers what I can do and what you should do. They may have interest on this product or they may buy it.

To build my brand online needs effort. To update frequently is important, for always in the range of customers' sight. And to have connection with famous social medias like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn is a good way to market.
